The Rivnut is a one-piece internally threaded and counterbored tubular aluminum rivet that can be pulled up or headed while working entirely from one side, forming a bulge or head on the blind side. This upset is large enough to resist being pulled through metal or plastic even under conditions of eccentric load. It overcomes the difficulty of installing brackets, handles or other attachments to tubular pieces.

Q+A

Rivnuts - what does the K at the end of the part number mean?
Our chart was missing a column. We have since updated it. The K refers to "keyed" rivnuts. Without the K is "keyless".

What is the difference between a keyed & keyless rivnut?
Per EAA Chapter 1311: "Rivnuts come in keyless and keyed styles. With the keyed style, your rivnut won't turn inside its hole if the screw gets a bit too tight. Installing them is easy: After you drill your hole, file a little slot into the edge of one side of the hole using a jewelers file or other small needle file. Put your keyed rivnut on the lifting screw or threaded rod. Mark where the key is with a Sharpie pen so that it is easy to see. When you put the rivnut into its hole, be sure that the key on the rivnut goes into your filed slot. From there, set it normally."
